Duncan Oil Hits 1,000 Barrel a Day Well Near Clinton

One of Oklahoma City’s privately-held independent oil and gas exploration companies is reporting this week the discovery of a 1,000-barrel a day oil well in western Oklahoma.

Duncan Oil Properties Inc. hit the 1,022 boed Goss well northwest of Clinton and near the small town of Butler, 32 15N 18W in Custer County. Gas production totaled 5,188 Mcf and the spud date was in January. Drilling was finished in February and the well was completed May 19, 2017.

Drilled in the Cleveland zone, the well is just outside the STACK play that is typically comprised of Blaine, Canadian and Kingfisher counties. But it still could be on the edge of the successful play.

Duncan also had a smaller producing well near Leedey. The company was established in the late 1950s by J. Walter Duncan Jr. and has been managed since 1993 by J. Walter Duncan IV.

The company first acquired its oil and gas lease in the Illinois Basin more than 75 years ago and now manages Duncan-owned energy interests in 26 states and Canada. Most of its wells are located in western Oklahoma.
