Oklahoma Wind Farm Owner Expands With Solar Power Purchase in Nevada

The company that owns the Cowboy Wind Farm near Blackwell, Oklahoma has expanded its energy holdings with the announcement it’s buying a massive solar operation in Nevada.

EDF Rnewable Energy, the company that bought the Cowboy Wind Farm in August of 2016 announced it’s purchased two solar projects from First Solar, Inc.

The projects are still under construction and will eventually sell combined output and environmental attributes under three agreements to subsidiaries of the Nevada Power Company. The commercial operation of the two projects is expected for late this month on one and late September for the other.

The solar farms are located in Clark County, Nevada on land managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. Once they are operational, they’ll be capable of generating electricity to meet the consumption demands of 46,000 homes in Nevada. The company points out it’s equivalent to avoiding more than 265,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions a year.

EDF Renewable Energy is considered to be one of the largest renewable energy developers in North America. It has 9 gigawatts of wind, solar, biomass, and biogas projects in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
