Pruitt Corrects Himself on Coal Claims

EPA Chief Scott Pruitt’s had to make some corrections to his Sunday morning TV talk show claims that the coal sector added almost 50,000 jobs since the fourth quarter.

On Monday, a spokeswoman for the agency said Pruitt was actually referring to the broader mining sector including other industries. His critics were quick to pounce on what they felt was an inaccurate comment.

Things have improved this year for the coal industry with prices on the increase after China cut its coal supply. Three U.S. mines are set to open to serve the metallurgical market. A slight increase in natural gas prices also helped the coal industry take back some share in the U.S. power sector.
