Forth Worth to Lose 1,600 XTO Energy Workers

Exxon Mobil’s announced plans to move 1,600 of its XTO Energy subsidiary’s employees from Fort Worth to the Houston area.

Reports indicate 1,200 employees will make the move in mid-2018 and another 400 will be transferred in 2020.

Only about 350 XTO Energy workers will stay in Fort Worth. Workers got the news on Friday that the company intends to sell six of the seven buildings it owns in Fort Worth. The workers will be moved to a 385-acre campus Exxon opened two years ago in Springwoods Village north of Houston.

XTO also announced it plans to close its regional office in Denver, Colorado by Sept. 1 and relocate the 110 jobs there. It remains unclear where the jobs will be relocated.

“The move is not a reflection of our feelings about doing business in Fort Worth,” Sara Ortwein, XTO Energy’s president, said in statement quoted by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “XTO is an important part of Exxon Mobil, and this move will enable collaboration and provide more opportunities to share expertise across the entire corporation.”
