Stolen Truck Chase Results in $1 million Damage to Texas Refinery

A 22-year old driver who led Texas deputies on a car chase that resulted in damage to the Chevron Phillips 66 refinery in Borger remains jailed.

It was over the weekend when a Hutchinson County deputy attempted to stop the driver of a stolen pickup truck. But the driver, later identified as Angel Vasquez wouldn’t stop and crashed through several gates at the chemical plant on Sunday leaving behind a trail of nearly $1 million in damage.

“He was doing 85 miles an hour in a 20-mile an hour zone when he broke the gate,” said Sheriff Kirk Coker. The suspect fled on foot at the plant, broke into one building and changed clothes. He had an estimated $15,000 in company radios on him when he was finally caught.

Vasquez was wanted in three counties on charges including bond forfeiture after being arrested for sealing a car, according to a report in the Amarillo Globe-News.
