Energy Company in Fight with Civil Rights Museum Over Unpaid Electric Bills

An interesting story out of North Carolina where Duke Energy, the nation’s largest utility finds itself accused of racism as it tries to force a civil rights museum to cough up more than $18,000 in unpaid electricity bills.

The Associated Press reports the utility has already turned off the lights once and is threatening to do the same thing again at the museum that honors the lunch-counter sit-in that launched the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Duke Energy’s not apologized for turning off the lights and that’s angered the executives at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro. Those same executives are alleging Duke Energy’s taken the action to get rid of black leaders at the museum and see the museum put into the hands of the city of Greensboro.
