Senate Committee Approves Nuclear Power Bill with Inhofe’s Support

Keeping you up to date on what the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee is doing, it has passed a Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act.

Called NEIMA, it improves the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s fee structure and lets it regulate and approve advanced reactor designs. The EPW committee, with the support of Oklahoma U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe advanced S. 512 on a vote of 18-3.

Inhofe called the act “critical for the revitalization and improvement of our nation’s nuclear energy industry.”

He said it will ensure the NRC will “operate efficiently, in turn allowing us to take full advantage of our country’s important nuclear fleet.”

Inhofe’s a big supporter of nuclear energy calling it carbon-free, reliable, safe and affordable.
