Driverless Cars to Be Studied by US House Hearing

 

The safety of those driverless cars will be the focus of a Tuesday congressional hearing and among those asking the questions will be Oklahoma U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin.

He’s a member of the Subcommittee on Digital commerce and Consumer Protection of the full House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The 9 a.m. hearing will focus on advance driver assistance systems or ADAS.

In short, just how safe are the driverless cars being developed. The topic of the hearing is “Self-Driving Cars: Levels of Automation.”

Jeff Klei, President of North America Automotive Divisions of Continental AG will testify. So will Dr. Kay Stepper, Vice President for Automated Driving and Driver Assistance Systems of Robert Bosch LLC.

A third witness will be Bill Gouse, Director of Federal Programs at SAE Internationa. David Zuby will be the fourth and final witness. He is Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
