Chemical Group Supports Inhofe and Mullin in Fighting Late Obama EPA Rule

Oklahoma U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe and Rep. Markwayne Mullin are getting support from the American Chemistry Council in their efforts to overturn a late-term Obama administration rule applying to storage of chemicals across the U.S.

Inhofe and Mullin have each introduced resolutions fighting the Risk Management Program of the Environmental Protection Agency. The RMP, adopted last fall would require the public disclosure of all chemicals stored in the country. But Inhofe and Mullin say it would put such information into the hands of terrorists.

Former Congressman Cal Dooley is president and CEO of the American Chemistry Council and wrote in The Hill this week the issue is about “ensuring the security of our nation.”

He too is worried about public disclosure saying it’s sensitive information “that if in the wrong hands, could be used to plan and execute dangerous and potentially deadly attacks on chemical facilities.”
