Oklahoma’s Rig Count Edges Past 100—Nation Adds 17

Oklahoma added 6 oil and gas rigs in the past week to top the 100 mark while nationwide, the rig count grew by 17 to reach 729, according to figures released by Baker Hughes Company of Houston.

Oklahoma’s count reached 102 compared to the 80 rigs reported one year ago at this time. Nationally, the count included 17 more oil rigs to reach 583 while the number of gas rigs remained at 145.

This week’s national count is 158 more than a year ago.  Canada reported a drop of two rigs to fall to 343.

Of the oil and gas plays in Oklahoma, the Woodfords remained at 6. The Granite Wash dropped two to reach 8. The Mississippian remained at 2. The Permian Basin saw an increase of four rigs to reach 295 compared to the 180 reported there a year ago. The Eagle Ford grew by 2 to reach 56.

Colorado added one to reach 26 while the count in  Louisiana fell by one to hit 52. The rig count in New Mexico grew by four to reach 46 while North Dakota remained at 36. The count in Texas increased by four to hit 355, compared to the 262 reported one year ago.

The rig count in Kansas, according to the Red Top Rig Report reached 31, an increase of four in the past week.
