Oklahoma’s Drilling Rig Numbers Hold Steady but Gain Nationally

Rig counts remained the same in Oklahoma in the past week while nationwide, they grew by 12 to reach 741, according to figures from the Baker Hughes Company in Houston, Texas.

Of course, the count is only from Baker Hughes and does not include states where it does not operate such as Kansas. The Kansas rig count, per the Red Top Rig report from the Independent Oil and Gas Association is at 31, same as last week. Added to the Baker Hughes Count, that would make the rig count at least 772.

The Baker Hughes county of 741 is up 200 from a year ago. Canada’s count grew by 9 in the past week to reach 352.

Texas continues to be the king of oil and gas drilling with 362 rigs, an increase of 7 over the past week. Oklahoma remained steady at 102. New Mexico added four to reach 50. North Dakota stayed at 36. Louisiana’s count grew by two to reach 54 and the count in Colorado stayed at 26.

The Permian Oil Basin is still the biggest draw across the country with 301 rigs this week, an addition of six over the past week. The Mississippian in Oklahoma added one to reach three active rigs. The Granite Wash remained at 8 while the Eagle Ford in south Texas stayed at 59.
