Oil and gas exploration is swelling in Oklahoma’s STACK play, witnessed by the latest filings for drilling permits issued at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and published at OK Energy Today.

At least ten permits to drill were issued alone for Kingfisher County in the heart of the STACK. Nine out of the ten permits were issued to Houston-based Newfield Exploration Mid-Con Inc. while the other permit went to Zephyr SWD LLC,

Zephyr SWD LLC is a small shale exploration company based in Oakwood.

Several new completions have been made in the STACK including two by Marathon Oil company in Canadian County. The largest well, located about 5 miles due north of El Reno and 2.5 miles east of highway 81 is producing 1,168 barrels equivalent a day.  The second well located about two miles south of Okarche and just west of highway 81 has a production of 745 barrels a day.

Kingfisher had two completions, one by Newfield Exploration and another by Staghorn Petroleum LLC based in Tulsa. Both wells saw production in the 400-barrel-a-day range.
