Monthly Index Suggests Slow Improvement of Economy in Oklahoma and 8 Midwestern States

Maybe rising oil prices have contributed to a slowly-improving economy in Oklahoma.  It’s a possible indication from the monthly Mid-America Business Conditions Index report released Tuesday by Creighton University economist Ernie Goss.

He says the monthly survey of business supply managers suggest economic conditions are improving in nine Midwest and Plains states, including Oklahoma. The overall economic index for the region jumped to 53.1 in December from 46.5 in November. In October, the figure was 43.8.

Under his system, anything above 50 suggests economic growth while anything less than 50 suggests a decline.

Other states in the survey include Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
