Higher gasoline prices are reported this week in Oklahoma with a new statewide average of $2.16 a gallon, according to a weekly release from AAA Oklahoma.

Around the state, none of the cities checked by AAA Oklahoma have an average under $2 a gallon. Lawton is lowest with an average of $2.08 a gallon. Tulsa is at $2.12. Oklahoma City’s average is $2.15.

The highest gasoline prices are in Stillwater and Guymon where averages are $2.21 a gallon. Ardmore is at $2.19.

“We expect gasoline prices to increase leading into the summer driving season as seasonal refinery maintenance gets underway this spring,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “Beyond that, prices will largely be dependent on how committed the oil cartel countries are to implement their stated production cuts of 1.8 million barrels per day. In the past, reality hasn’t matched their rhetoric but early reports indicate Oman and Kuwait are reducing oil production.”

The national average is up six cents from a week ago at $2.35 a gallon.

Even though Oklahoma’s average is up to $2.16, the state still has some of the cheapest gasoline in the nation. AAA Oklahoma says the state is 9th lowest nationally with the lowest average at $2.11 in south Carolina.
