Two conservative-based groups are working the political arena to get Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt confirmed as the new director of the EPA.

America Rising Squared came out Wednesday with a memo showing the regulatory overreach of the EPA in West Virginia, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota and Pennsylvania. Those happen to be where six Senate Democrats face competitive 2018 reelection contests in states carried by Donald Trump. they include Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Jon Tester of Montana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania.

Another conservative group, FreedomWorks said it’s taking an “extraordinary step” to get Pruitt confirmed. “Nonetheless, a closer investigation reveals that Pruitt is one of Trump’s best cabinet picks yet.

The Koch-backed group said it’s part of a move to “stress the sense of importance and urgency of Attorney General Pruitt’s confirmation to serve as administrator of the EPA.”

FreedomWorks, in an unusual move,  said it will score committee and floor votes on the nomination as “key votes.” It also offered an explanation.

“EPA has become the most notorious offender in the unconstitutional fourth branch of government.”
