STACK Interest Continues to Grow in Oklahoma

Little wonder the Oklahoma Corporation Commission decided last week to make a peremptory move about fracking and earthquakes in the SCOOP and STACK, the state’s two most active oil plays.

Just a quick review of the drilling permits as published by OK Energy Today and issued for activity in the STACK, comprised of the drilling for oil and gas in Blaine, Canadian and Kingfisher counties shows high numbers approved. And the numbers only corroborate the interest expressed by some of the bigger oil and gas firms.

Just in the past week, 18 permits have been issued for Blaine County and 12 of them were handed out to Continental Resources Inc., most in the same section located about 4 miles southeast of Watonga. Devon Energy received two permits to drill in Blaine County while Midland, Texas-based Carrera Energy received 4, Marathon Oil one and one for Chaparral Energy.

Marathon Oil and Newfield Exploration each received one drilling permit for Canadian County.

In Kingfisher County, two permits were granted Hinkle Oil and Gas of Oklahoma City while Devon, Chaparral and Carrera Energy each received one permit.
