Senators Targeted to Block Pruitt’s EPA Nomination

Donald Trump’s nomination of Oklahoma Attorney General  Scott Pruitt promises to be one of the more controversial confirmation hearings in his new administration and opponents have already laid out their plans.

For instance, the Sierra Club has started a five-figure, online ad campaign in a bid to convince seven Republican and three moderate Democratic Senators they should not support Pruitt as head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Club will air ads in the states represented by Republican Senators Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania; Lindsey Graham of South Carolina; Susan Collins of Maine; Lamar Alexander of Tennessee; Dean Heller of Nevada; Jeff Flake of Arizona and Rob Portman of Ohio.

The Democrats are Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia; Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota; and Joe Donnelly of Indiana.

Why fight Pruitt?

In the words of Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce.

“No fossil fuel ally or climate denier is fit to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.”

From day one, environmentalists have voiced extreme prejudice against Pruitt and as Pruitt’s confirming hearing approaches, the voices will no doubt become much louder.
