Oil and Gas Rig Counts Grow in Oklahoma and U.S.

The number of drilling rigs increased in the nation’s oil and gas patch in the past week, growing by 4 to reach a total of 597 while Oklahoma added two, according to figures from the Baker Hughes Company.

The nation’s count increased 3 additional oil rigs to reach 477 and one more gas rig to hit 119. However, the total U.S. rig count remains 140 below the 737 counted one year ago.

Canada’s count grew by 26 over the past week to reach 200 working rigs. Oklahoma’s Granite Wash remained at eleven and the Mississippian play was steady at four rigs. The Ardmore Woodford still had no working rigs while the number in the Arkoma Woodford remained at five. Colorado’s D-J Niobrara dropped two to reach 18 while the Permian Basin in west Texas and southeastern New Mexico added 7 rigs to reach 235. The Eagle Ford count increased by two to hit 40.

Oklahoma’s count increased by two to reach a total of 81 working rigs. Texas added 7 to reach 286. North Dakota fell by two to 31. The count in New Mexico stayed at 29. The count in Louisiana fell by four to hit 48. Colorado reported two fewer working rigs with 20 still active. While Baker Hughes reported no working rigs in Kansas, the Red Top Rig report showed 43 working rigs, an increase of six from last week.
