First Real Blast of Winter coming Wednesday to the State

Oklahoma is bracing for its first real arctic blast of the approaching winter with temperatures dropping to the single digits in the Panhandle and teens elsewhere.

The blast is to arrive Tuesday night and early Wednesday, resulting in day-time highs on Thursday only in the 20s across northern Oklahoma and 30s in the south.

Gary McManus, State Climatologist with the Oklahoma Mesonet describes it as “teeth-chattering territory.”

“The real culprit will be the winds AND the cold, a dastardly due that promised to drop wind chill values into the single digits at times. And there will be a chance of some freezing drizzle and light now, mainly across northern OK,” wrote McManus in his Monday weather update.

Temperatures will rebound for milder weather in the weekend as the State continues to be in the midst of its 2nd warmest fall on record.
