Three Oklahoma City-based energy companies are busy at work in Ohio these days.
Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corporation remains the top driller in Ohio’s Utica Shale according to a recent report by Kallanish Energy.
Chesapeake received 825 permits since late 2010 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and its Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management, representing 35.6% of Utica Shale permits in Ohio.
Another Oklahoma City-based independent oil and natural gas E&P company — Gulfport Energy Corporation — is second with 321 permits, followed by Denver-based Antero Resources with 210 permits and Oklahoma City’s Ascent Resources with 196 permits. A total of 39 drilling companies have been issued drilling permits in Ohio, according to a new report issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
According to the report, Ohio has 1,473 producing Utica wells, 300 wells that have been drilled, 458 that have been permitted, 48 that are inactive/shut-in, 33 that are lost holes/final restoration, three that are dry/abandoned and three that are plugged/abandoned.
