Rig counts in Oklahoma and across the U.S. rose in the past week with Oklahoma adding 3 more to reach a total of 76 working rigs. Nationally, the count reached 569 with an additional 12 rigs, according to numbers from Houston, Texas-based Baker Hughes. However, the numbers vary greatly since Baker Hughes reports no rigs in Kansas while the Red Top Rig Count there from the Independent Oil and Gas Service reports 42 working rigs.

The Oklahoma count includes 10 rigs in the Granite Wash, two in the Mississippian and five in the Arkoma Woodford. Baker Hughes reports no working rigs in the Ardmore Woodford. It also reports 35 rigs in the Eagle Ford of south Texas and an increase of six rigs in the Permian where the total is 128 rigs.

The national count includes an additional 9 oil rigs to reach a total of 450 while there are 7 more gas rigs, making for a total of 117. However, the U.S. rig county is still 202 below the 771 reported one year ago. The oil rig count is 122 below last year’s count and the number of gas rigs is 82 fewer than one year ago.
