Rep. Mullin to Join in Election of New Chairman of House Energy and Commerce Committee

The chairmanship of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee is expected to be determined by week’s end. It is considered a highly-sought-after position and the steering committee will meet Wednesday, following by presentations on Thursday by the interested candidates.

Oklahoma U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin is a member of the committee and will no doubt take part in the elections to be held by the end of the week.

Three committee members have expressed interest in chairing the full committee including Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) who already chairs the subcommittee on environment and the economy.  Oregon Republican Rep Greg Walden is chairman of thee subcommittee on communications and technology.  Texas Congressman Joe Barton, another Republican is the committee’s chair emeritus and like the others wants to replacing outgoing chairman Fred Upton, a Republican from Michigan.
