While a North Dakota oil pipeline is the focus of hundreds of protesters, another pipeline under construction is moving ahead with little public notice. It’s the $353 million Nueva Era Pipeline and Howard Midstream Energy Partners, LLC of San Antonio just closed on project financing.

The project, a nearly 200-mile natural gas pipeline will connect producers in South Texas to users in northern Mexico. It is a 50-50 joint venture between Howard Midstream and Mexico-based energy and services firm Grupo CLISA. The line will connect Howard Midstream’s existing Webb County Hub in  south Texas directly to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

Construction started earlier this year and once it’s completed and in service by the second half of 2017, the line will supply 504 million cubic feet of natural gas a day to help fuel combined-cycle power plants in Escobedo and Huinala near Monterrey.
