Cushing Shook by 5.0 Magnitude Earthquake on Sunday Evening

Cushing was rattled with a large earthquake on Sunday evening, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS preliminary report was a 5.3 magnitude but it has been downgraded to a 5.0 magnitude earthquake.

The temblor struck Payne County at approximately 7:44 p.m. Its epicenter was located one mile west of Cushing. It was less than four miles deep.

The Cushing Fire Department reported no injuries although “significant damage” was reported in downtown Cushing, according to a News 9 report.

There are no further damage reports associated with this most recent earthquake. The Cushing oil storage terminal pipeline operators have also indicated no problems associated with the earthquake.

A record 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck Pawnee in northern central Oklahoma on September 3. Since then, the area has been rocked by several lower magnitude temblors.
