Seventeen days after Cushing suffered a 5.0 magnitude earthquake, the Payne County city suffered two more smaller quakes early Tuesday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.3 magnitude quake hit at 3:54 a.m. and it was followed a minute later by a stronger quake measuring 4.0 magnitude.
Reports indicated the twin quakes were only one mile apart with epicenters located just north of downtown Cushing.
It was Sunday, Nov. 5 when the 5.0 quake struck, leaving nearly 50 buildings damaged and at least one person injured. The State Corporation Commission ordered two days later a reduction in the operation of some injection wells located around Cushing.
As of last week, a spokesman for the Commission indicated that data was still being reviewed to determine the impact of the reductions.
