Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump huddled this week in Denver with more than a dozen oil and gas executives, attempting to tighten his influence on the industry in a state where he reportedly trails Hillary Clinton by 11 points in one poll.

Oklahoma Energy leader Harold Hamm is one of those executives who is unashamed of his support for Trump.

Trump told the industry he would reduce regulations in contrast to President Obama and Clinton, according to a report in Politico.com.

A pool report indicated Trump told the oil and gas people there are “regulations that are totally unnecessary and put people out of work.”  Reporters allowed into the meeting room were also given 10 minutes to listen to Trump’s comments and conversations.

It was only weeks ago when environmental activists in Colorado failed to collect enough signatures to hold a statewide vote on anti-fracking measures. At the time of the petition drive, Trump made a statement that he felt anti-fracking measures should be left up to local voters. Later, Hamm, founder of Oklahoma’s Continental Resources met with Trump and changed Trump’s mind. As Hamm said later, Trump “did not understand” the issue but “he does now.”
