More Oil and Gas Rigs Reported in Oklahoma and U.S.

Oil and gas drilling rig counts make another dramatic increase nationally and in Oklahoma, increasing by 15 in the past week in the U.S. and going up 3 to reach a total of 73 in Oklahoma.

Figures from Baker Hughes Company in Houston, those reflecting services offered by the company show the national rig count is up to 539, including four more oil rigs and eleven gas rigs. The national oil rig count, based on Baker Hughes contracts, is up to 432 and the gas rig count grew to 105.

Compared to a year ago, the national count is still down 248 from 787 including 163 fewer oil rigs and 87 fewer gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s count of 73 compares to the 89 rigs a year ago. The count in the Granite Wash play of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle remained at 10 while the count in the Mississippian is down one to two. The Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico fell two to hit 201. The Eagle Ford in Texas dropped four to reach 31. Oklahoma’s Ardmore Woodford remains at no rigs while the Arkoma Woodford remained at four.

Baker Hughes reports Arkansas has one active rig while Colorado added two to reach 21. New Mexico is up three to hit 32 while the count in North Dakota remained at 32 from a week ago. In Texas, the count is 244, a drop of three.

The count in Kansas, according to Baker Hughes figures is no active rigs. But the Red Top Rig report from the Independent Oil and Gas Service Inc. based in Wichita says Kansas has 39 active drilling rigs and 62,5 percent are in western Kansas. It is the same count as a week ago but up 19.4% from a month ago. However the Red Top Rig report says the Kansas count is still down  5.1% from a year ago.
