General Electric’s new $125 million oil and natural gas technology center is formally being opened this week in downtown Oklahoma City.

The opening comes three years after GE announced it would build the center and broke ground.  GE executives joined Oklahoma officials in commemorating the huge center, the first GE research center to focus on innovation in a single sector.

The center is five stories tall and includes 10,000 square feet of laboratories as well as two indoor wells where 120 GE scientists will be able to simulate conditions in wells, according to a report in USA Today.

Former Oklahoma Energy Secretary Michael Ming is the General Manager of the Research Center. He delivered the opening remarks.
