Enel Green Power North America says it now is producing 1 gigawatt of wind capacity in Oklahoma, and will mark the completion of its seventh and eighth wind projects by the end of the year.

Enel has operated wind farms in Oklahoma since 2012 and started with the MW Rocky Ridge wind farm, according to a report in the Enid News and Eagle.

The company has also become the second largest owner and operator of wind energy in the state.  The firm says the 1 gigawatt of wind energy is enough to power about 400,000 homes and represents a $2 billion investment in the state.

“The achievement of 1 gigawatt of wind capacity in Oklahoma is attributable to the thousands of EGP-NA employees and contractors, Oklahoma community leaders, landowners and residents that worked on constructing and supporting our eight wind projects in the state,” said Rafael Gonzalez, EGP-NA’s chief executive officer.
