Despite having the state’s highest jobless rate over the loss of oil and gas field workers, the city of Duncan has received a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council.

The award for the Duncan Area Economic Development Foundation was for its 2015 Annual Newsletter and for communities with populations of less than 25,000.

The newsletter was a multi-page mailer used to inform the community about activities and accomplishments made over the past year.

“Not only did they work to provide a necessary service to their community, but also their participation in the awards program sheds light on their stellar projects which other communities can now use as a benchmark,” said Barry Matherly, chairman of the board of the IEDC.

The organization’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders.
