Another Government Delay for Williams and its Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has handed another blow to Williams Partners LP over the Tulsa company’s plans for a $3 billion pipeline to carry natural gas to the eastern part of the country.

The Commission announced recently that landowners would have until Nov. 14 to comment on the new route alternatives for parts of Williams’s Atlantic Sunrise project in Pennsylvania. Earlier, the Commission said it would issue a final environmental review of the line by Oct. 21.

The announcement now might mean a delay on the start of construction on the 200-mile extension to the Transco Pipeline system which runs from the Gulf of Mexico to New York City.

Leaders at Williams had anticipated a final approval of the project in early 2017 so it could start service late next year. It’s not the first setback on the project. Williams had originally asked for a final order by April 29, 2016 when it made application for the project in March 2015.
