While Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners has been busy fighting protesters as well as the federal government over its construction of a nearly $4 billion pipeline in North Dakota, the firm has been buying a 6,000 acre ranch near the protest sites.
A report said the company confirmed the purchase but is not offering any other details about it. The 20 parcels of land made up the Cannonball Ranch owned by David and Brenda Meyer of Flasher, North Dakota.. Records did not indicate any of the financial terms of the purchase.
Energy Transfer’s Dakota Access oil pipeline is to stretch from North Dakota through South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois. Native Americans have protested, contending the construction has destroyed burial and cultural sites and is endangering some of their drinking water sources.
The protests over the past several months have also attracted Native Americans from Oklahoma as well as environmentalists.
