The Association of Central Oklahoma Governments plans to begin a series of public meetings as it seeks public comment on a plan to invest more than $10 billion in central Oklahoma’s multimodal transportation system.
ACOG Executive Director John G. Johnson will deliver one of the public presentations Tuesday night at the Norman public library. It will begin at 7 p.m.
“Central Oklahoma has experienced significant growth over the past decade,” said Johnson. “We believe this trend will continue and many more residents and businesses will move into the region in the years to come.”
He called it ‘welcomed growth’ and said it will mean more trips affecting congestion, mobility and overall quality of life.
“We must earnestly look ahead and plan for suitable mobility options including improved roadways, transit services and bicycle and pedestrian amenities,” added Johnson.
ACOG will hold several public meetings and public availability sessions through Oct. 7. Encompass 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan was developed over a 5-year period. Among the groups that helped with the development was the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority, Cleveland Area Rapid Transit, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration and other stakeholders.
