New York AG Sued by Conservative Environmental Groups Over Emails

More than two weeks after a U.S. House committee subpoenaed New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in a dispute over his politically-driven probe of Exxon Mobil, Schneiderman has been sued by two conservative environmental law groups.

The Free Market Environmental Law Clinic and the Energy and Environment Legal Institute sued him for investigating Exxon and other groups and companies for their skepticism of reported man-made global warming. The suit accused Schneiderman of the same thing the U.S. House Committee on Science and Technology charged him with—refusing to turn over emails and other information related to his probe. Oklahoma Reps. Frank Lucas and Jim Bridenstine are members of the committee.

The environmental groups want emails and communications between Schneiderman and California Attorney General Kamala Harris, a Democrat and environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer. Steyer and Harris are advocates of enacting investigations against global warming skeptics and fossil fuel companies such as Exxon Mobil.
