Unmanned Systems Alliance Summit to be Held in Norman

The 2016 Unmanned Systems Alliance of Oklahoma summit is set to be held August 8 in Norman.

The summit and networking event will include a presentation and panel discussing and exploring the new issues of aviation law and regulations, privacy and security concerns and the federal preemption and state authority over unmanned aerial systems or drones.

Professor Stephen Henderson of the University of Oklahoma Law School will chair the panel that will include Lisa Ellman, former White House official and co-Executive Director of the new Commercial Drone alliance, Professor Joseph Thai of the OU law school, Professor Marc Blitz of the law school at Oklahoma City University, and Vic bird, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.

The panel will also discuss 1st and 4th Amendment considerations, existing aviation law concerns, privacy and state issues.

The dinner and networking event will be held Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History while the summit will be held Aug. 9 at the National Weather Center.

The summit is the sixth to be held by the Unmanned Systems Alliance of Oklahoma. It is designed to support and energize the emerging unmanned systems industry in the state with a primary focus on unmanned aerial systems and the emerging commercial applications and capabilities in weather measurement and forecasting. The focus will also be in severe weather research, atmospheric physics, climate science and impacts of UAS on weather related sciences including agriculture, energy and natural disasters including wildfires and flooding.
