A federal agency has finally given approval of a nearly 200-mile Comanche Trail Pipeline to be built near El Paso in southern Texas.

Approval came this week at the Federal energy Regulatory Commission for part of the natural gas pipeline that’s being constructed and operated by Energy Transfer Partners at the U.S. and Mexico boundary in San Elizario, Texas.

The company says the Comanche Trail pipeline will terminate at the international boundary in the Rio Grande River and will then interconnect with a pipeline near San Isidro in Chihuahua, Mexico.

The 195-mile, 42-inch diameter pipeline originates at the Waha Hub outside Fort Stockton, Texas in northern Pecos County. The intrastate line is designed to move 1.1 billion cubic feet a day of natural gas part of an agreement with the Comissi’on Federal de Electricidad which is Mexico’s federal electricity commission.

The pipeline is expected to be fully in service by January 2017.
