Bartlesville Awaits More Possible Layoffs at ConocoPhillips Operations

Nine months after ConocoPhilips laid off 1,800 workers, including 170 at its Bartlesville, Oklahoma operation, the company has to cut another thousand workers from its payroll.

But there’s no indication some of those losing their jobs are workers in Bartlesville, home to Phillips 66 before it merged with Conoco. The latest round of layoffs is about 6 percent of the company’s global workforce.

The company said the move is necessary as crude prices float in the $40 to $45 range.

“We have taken several steps as a company to adapt to lower and more volatile prices and strengthen our position coming out of the downturn,” said Daren Beaudo, a spokesman for ConocoPhillips.

The company announced an April cut of its annual spending budget, dropping it by 40 percent from the 2015 budget to $5.7 billion.

Last year’s layoffs in Bartlesville started shortly after Labor Day after the company blamed what it called a “dramatic downturn.”
