Nation’s Rig Count Grew by 7 while Oklahoma Remained Steady

The U.S. oil and gas rig count grew by 7 in the past week while the number of working rigs in Oklahoma remained at 59.

The national count increased to 447 with six additional oil rigs and one gas rig. The U.S. oil rig count stands at 357 while the number of working gas rigs is 89. In the past year, the U.S. count is down by 410 from last year’s count at 857. That includes a drop of 281 oil rigs and 129 gas rigs.

Canada’s count grew by 14 in the past week, reaching 95.

Of some of the adjacent states with active oil and gas interest, none saw a decline. However, North Dakota’s count slipped by one to reach 27. Otherwise, Colorado added one to reach 20. Kansas remained at one. Louisiana’s count grew by three to reach 46. New Mexico added four to hit 25. Texas added one rig and stands at 202 working rigs.

Of the oil and gas plays, the Ardmore Woodford in Oklahoma finally got out of the zero level and added one rig. The Arkoma Woodford remained at two rigs. The Granite Wash stayed at 8 while the Mississippian continued with five working rigs. The Eagle Ford in south Texas remained at 33 while the Permian Basin in West Texas and southeast New Mexico added two, reaching a count of 160 rigs.
