Big mea culpas are coming from some scientists after admitting they made major mistakes, especially in the case of an Oregon State University researcher who claimed to have found environmentally harmful effects from fracking.

Retraction Watch, a group devoted to such scientific mistakes is reporting major retractions on the part of the authors of two environmental papers and their relationship to the oil and gas industry.

The author of the fracking good blamed the mistake on an “honest spreadsheet error,” according to Retraction Watch. However, by then it had been cited extensively by news organizations.
