Rig Counts Grow in Oklahoma and the U.S.

The rig count gain for Oklahoma was only one in the past week, but at least the state joined the total U.S. count in making an addition of oil and gas  rigs. Oklahoma’s count inched up slightly to reach 59 rigs while the nation’s count increased by 9 to hit 440.

Nationally, the increase included 10 oil rigs to reach a total count of 351 oil rigs. The number of gas rigs fell by one to reach 88.  Over the past year, the national count fell by 423 from 863 rigs reported a year ago and that includes a drop of 294 oil rigs and 129 gas rigs.

Canada’s count grew by 5 to reach 81 but the country remains 88 below the 169 working rigs one year ago.

Oklahoma saw its one rig increase in the Mississippian play where the count grew to 5 but remains 13 below the count of a year ago.  The three significant plays In the state remain unchanged. The Ardmore Woodford is still without a working rig compared to the 7 it had a year ago. The Arkoma Woodford is still at two. The Granite Wash remained at 8 compared to the 15 rigs one year ago.

The Eagle Ford in south Texas is still at 33 while the Permian Basin added four rigs to reach 158. The Permian remains the nation’s most active oil and gas play but it too, like all of the others in the nation has suffered. A year ago, the Permian had 239 working rigs.
