Approved in North Dakota, a quarter-of-a-billion-dollar wind farm. The North Dakota Public Service Commission voted this week unanimously in support of the $250 million wind farm and an electric transmission line in the southwest part of the state.
The decision came after the commission made history in March when it heard 15 hours of testimony and public comment, some of it in opposition by residents of Hettinger and Stark counties where the wind farm will eventually be constructed. Those against the wind farm were a grassroots opposition group called Concerned Citizens of Stark County.
The three-member panel approved Brady Wind LLC’s application and cleared the way for the start of construction. The wind farm will consist of 72 wind turbines with the capability of producing up to 100 megawatts of electrical power.
Brady Wind is a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, a firm based in Florida. The actual wind farm will be in Hettinger County while the underground electrical collection systems and cables will be located in adjacent Stark County. The two counties are located in southwestern North Dakota.
