Legislator Wants Interim Study on Oil and Gas Wastewater and Possible Recycling

Oklahoma City legislator Richard Morrissette not only is sponsoring a public forum to be held at the State Capitol on wastewater and the injection wells thought to be causing Oklahoma’s earthquakes, he wants an interim legislative study on the issue.

He filed the request last week on the day of the deadline for such requests. The topic of his proposed study is “Options for Wastewater Recycling.”

As explained by Rep. Morrissette (D-OKC), “Presently, there are being developed and implemented various methods of produced water wastewater recycling, as an alternative to injection.”

He called the issue important to all Oklahomans as well as maintaining the presence of legacy industries of equal important to the state’s economy and way of life.

“The study will host some of the nation’s more innovative recyclers whose methods are cost effective for industry,” added Morrissette in his request.
