Summit to Feature Legal Ramifications of Unmanned Aerial Systems

August is when the 2016 Oklahoma Unmanned Aerial Systems Summit will be held at the National Weather Service in Norman.

The 6th annual statewide summit is sponsored by the Unmanned Systems Alliance of Oklahoma, or USA-OK. The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission plans a presentation addressing legal and public policy issues of Unmanned Aircraft Systems on the evening before the start of the summit which is Aug. 9.

The Commission’s presentation will be at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History on Monday, Aug 8 at 6 p.m. The evening event will include a panel of experts to discuss important legal, public policy and constitutional issues associated with emerging UAS regulations and rules.

Panel members include: Professor Stephen Henderson, chairman of the OU School of Law; Lisa Ellman, a former White House official and Co-Executive Director of the Commercial Drone Alliance; Professor Joseph Thai of the OU School of Law; Professor Marc Blitz of the OCU School of Law; and Vic Bird, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.

Discussions will focus on 1st and 4th Amendment considerations, existing aviation law concerns, privacy, federal preemption challenges and state concerns and issues.
