Big Wind Farm Gets New Owner

A large wind farm in northern Colorado gets a new owner. Leeward Renewable Energy LLC announced that one of its subsidiaries has completed the purchase of BP Wind Energy North America Inc.’s 33 and a third percent membership interest in the Cedar Creek Wind 1 farm near Grover, Colorado.

Grover’s a small community with about 140 residents, far fewer than the nearly 400 wind turbines that make up the wind farm constructed in 2007. Leeward now is the sole member of Cedar Creek 1, a purchase that continues the company’s strategy to expand its holdings of high quality wind assets in the U.S.

The 301 MW wind farm supplies power to Public Service of Colorado under a long-term contract that doesn’t expire until 2027. The wind farm supplies electricity for more than 81,100 homes. Leeward Renewable Energy is an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners LLC.
