EPA Wants Increase in Renewable Fuels Standards for 2017

ethanolcornpumpsThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants to boost renewable fuels standards for 2017, increasing the amount of corn-based ethanol and biofuels that fuel producers will have to mix into diesel and gasoline.

Under the standards announced this week, the EPA wants 18.8 billion gallons to be blended into the nation’s fuel supply next year which represents a 4 percent increase from the 18.11 billion gallons set for this year.

The new total is well below the 24 billion gallons outlined in a 2007 law aimed at cutting U.S. oil imports and boosting renewable fuel use, according to a report in Automotive News.
