Rig Counts Across U.S. and Oklahoma Fell Again

Oklahoma’s oil and gas rig count fell by 3 in the past week while the nation’s count slipped by 5, according to the latest figures from Baker Hughes Company.

Oklahoma’s decline left the state with a count of 57 working oil and gas rigs. Nationwide, the count fell to 415, down 479 from a year ago when there were 894 working rigs.

In the past week, the drop of 5 rigs nationally included four oil rigs, leaving the U.S. with 328 working oil rigs. The gas rig count fell by one, leaving a total of 86 working gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s Granite Wash stands at 43. four, an increase of one in the past week. A year ago, there were 16. The Mississippian Lime is at six, an increase of two. The Woodfords are at four, same as a week ago.

Of surrounding oil and gas states, only Texas saw an increase. It added three rigs to reach a total of 188. Kansas remained at four. Colorado dropped one to reach 15. Louisiana dropped two to reach 43. New Mexico remained at 16 working rigs. North Dakota’s count fell by one to reach 25.

The increase in Texas occurred in the Permian Basins where five more rigs entered the play making a total count of 139.A year ago, the play had 237 active rigs.
