May is expected to bring an end to any remaining areas of Oklahoma still under a drought, according to the latest Oklahoma Mesonet Report.

“The precipitation outlook is bullish on above-normal precipitation across all of Oklahoma, but especially the southwestern two-thirds,” said Gary McManus, State Climatologist in the Monday edition of his daily reports. “The May drought outlook indicates Oklahoma’s already diminishing drought is expected to be eradicated by the end of the month.”

Storms from last week produced flooding in southeastern Oklahoma. The Mesonet site at Broken Bow recorded 8.73 inches of rain on the 29th. The storms and unusually heavy rainfall were part of the weather system that produced massive flooding in east Texas where at least six persons drowned in one city. Several other southeastern Oklahoma Mesonet sites saw more than 4 inches.
