State Recycling Law Amended by Governor

One of the bills signed into law Tuesday by Governor Mary Fallin concerns the state’s Recycling and Recycled Materials Procurement Act. HB 2407 was sent to her desk and removes the requirement that the Director of Central Services coordinate certain information from state public entities and file a report with the Governor, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Under the original law which was aimed at going “green,”   the report had to be filed before January 15 of every year. Such reports from the state agencies include the total amount of waste paper and other recyclable materials sold during the previous fiscal year as well as the amount of procured recycled paper products made with recycled materials.

As the law stated, “all state public entities and other governmental subdivisions—aggressively pursue procurement practices that encourage solid waste reduction and development of markets for recyclable materials and compost and whenever practical, procure products containing recycled materials.”
