Repairs are Made to Leaking TransCanada Oil Pipeline

The leak of a TransCanada pipeline that carries oil to Cushing and eventually down the southern leg of the Keystone pipeline to the Gulf Coast involved about 17,000 gallons of oil, according to an announcement by TransCanada.

The leak occurred in a field in South Dakota and TransCanada reported it involved 16,800 gallons of oil. The amount was reported by the company to the National Response Centre and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration.

Workers excavated nearly 100 feet of pipe to repair the leak. The leak was discovered last weekend about 4 miles from a pump station in Hutchinson County.
