PSO To Build New Service Center in Weatherford

Public Service Company plans to begin work soon on a new $2.5 million service center in Weatherford, replacing the current 4,500 square foot building that was built in 1989.

The company said the existing building at 222 W. Tom Stafford is overcrowded, difficult for today’s big line trucks to maneuver and lacks enough space for material storage. The new service center will be located at 4600 Commerce and be more than 9,800 square feet in size. It will include office space, meeting rooms, a storeroom, expanded truck parking and a “laydown yard” for poles, transformers and other materials.

Current restrictions have forced the company to store most materials off-site, resulting in extra time when responding to outages and other emergencies.

“This will allow us to better serve our Weatherford-area customers,” said Mike Hixson, PSO’s community affairs manager. “The size of our new facility will provide more room from which to operate and to store equipment and materials. That will translate into faster response times and better service for the nearly 10,000 customers served by our Weatherford-based employees.”

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
